Caring in the Bible

Updated: Dec 27, 2020

Love and care of all people is a big part of the Christain faith, but what exactly does the bible say about it? Let's take a deeper look!

Definition of care: when someone or thing is an object of attention. Disquieted by

apprehension (dictionary meaning). Emotionally moved to do something to make

life better for someone. It is an action word.

How to Care:

Smile: A friendly smile or countenance is enough to melt a stony heart.

Kind Words: Proverbs 16:24 says “kind words are like honey; sweet to the soul

and healthy for the body”. This can be displayed in giving compliments, speaking

words of encouragement; no one frowns at compliments.

Money: This is another way to show you care. When your heart goes out to someone

in financial difficulty and you are moved to meet such need.

Spend Time: Being around someone is equally termed as giving the person the best

part of life, sometimes more valuable than money.

Who should be cared for?

Everyone needs care and attention, but there some classes of people who stand out:

Widows, orphans, physically challenged and the poor in general.

“Give generously to the poor, not grudgingly, for the Lord your God will bless you in everything you do. There will always be some in the land who are poor. That is why I am commanding you to share freely with the poor and other Israelites in need” - Deut 15: 10-11

Outcome of Care:

Care comes back with 2 reactions; the person cared for and the person who offered it.

In both cases, the effect is the same. It brings joy, lightheartedness, friendliness and

trust.

"Oh, the joys of those who are kind to the poor! The Lord rescues them when they are in trouble. The Lord protects them from their enemies. The Lord nurses them when they are sick and restore them to health" - Psalm 41:1-3

If there is any reason why we should care for others, the above Psalms says it all

asides being obedient to God’s word. Amen.
